GREETINGS: Spring is here and we have many events to choose from
for our walking pleasure. It wont be long until June is here and the AVA Convention
will be under way in Muncie. If you plan to attend and have not registered, you have
missed the discount registration period and will have to pay the higher price. There is
still plenty of time to register and attend. Another convention deadline is fast
approaching. The deadline for entering your club for the Star Award recognition and the
publicity contest is April 30. If your club is eligible for a Star Award, and you have not
sent in your papers, please do it quickly. It would be great to see the majority of the
TVA Clubs get the Star Award.
The TVA will have a booth at the Convention. This will be a great opportunity to
publicize our TEXAS Events. Anna Cottrill has agreed to organize the booth for us. She
will need volunteers to help man the booth. If you are willing to help, email Anna at
JCRB39B@prodigy.com to volunteer. The exhibit section will be open during the Welcome
Social Tuesday evening and for 2 hours at lunch on Wednesday - Friday. Some of the things
we have planned for the booth are maps and photos of the TVA YREs, Texas shaped
chips and salsa, hourly door prize drawings of donated Texas items, a table for club
brochures, and an area to display club mascots. If we can get them, we also plan to have
Texas stick on patches with the TVA logo to give away to booth visitors. These will be 1
inch in size. Those of you that have attended previous conventions know folks like to
stick them on their nametags.
We want to have brochures for each TEXAS YRE to distribute at the TVA Booth. We are
requesting each club provide a minimum of 200 flyers for the convention. Please let me
know how you plan to get your brochures to convention. I will carry the brochures for
clubs not going or any others to Muncie. Please let me know by May 1 what your plans are.
You can also put out brochures for upcoming events if you desire.
We want to be sure each club is represented at convention, either in person or by
proxy. If the club President is going to convention, he will be the delegate for the club.
If the President is not going, the person representing the club must have a proxy form and
be registered at the convention to be a delegate. If you do not have a club member going,
I will need a proxy form from the club President. I will be contacting each club around
the middle of May to be sure your club is represented.
One final item about convention. ONLY clubs in good standing can be represented and
vote at convention. This means all bills paid and reports submitted on time. Please be
sure your first quarter after action reports are in on time for your YREs. We
dont want to loose a club vote due to a missing report.
If you have not received your TVA YRE after action forms, let me know immediately and I
will send you new ones. The forms were mailed to the Club President in February.
REGIONAL DIRECTOR: Lyn Ward is now serving as our Regional Director until June and the
convention. You should have received a newsletter from him about his activities and plans.
Each club received a mail in ballot for election of Southwest Regional Director for the
next 2 years starting after the AVA Convention. I have not received all ballots back. Most
of the New Mexico clubs have responded. What are the rest of you TEXAS Clubs waiting for??
Please have them in the mail before MAY 1, so we can complete the voting and report
the results at convention.
5K WALKS: The subject of 5k walks will come up at the next IVV meeting . The AVA is
asking the clubs to report on their experiences when we were allowed to have 5k walks. If
you had 5k events, we need your input. Did the 5k trail help your event?? Did you get more
walkers due to the shorter distance?? Did the 5k trail hurt your attendance. Please reply
to me or Lyn Ward before May 1. You can use either email or snail mail. We need your
input!
NEW MILLENNIUM WALKS: If your club is planning a walk on Dec 31, 1999 or Jan 1 or 2,
2000 and wants to participate in the Walk for the New Millennium event, we must have your
sanction request in and approved so it can be at the AVA office by July 15. They must have
it to the IVV very shortly after that. This does not apply to YREs. Only events on
those days.
TIES STILL NEEDED: Do you have an old or new necktie that is red, blue or gold.
Charlene Foerster has agreed to make a vest out of them for the Auction to be held during
the AVA convention. Those of you that attended the TVA meeting in Huntsville saw the vest
Charlene was wearing. It was made from neckties. Send your ties to Charlene Foerster, 235
Willowbend, Huntsville, TX 77340. Please get them to Charlene quickly. Time is getting
short.
YRE SANCTIONS FOR 2000: Please do not wait until the last minute to start submitting
your sanctions for the 2000 YREs. It takes a lot of time to get them processed. All
forms must be to me by August 1. Getting them in later than that could result in them not
getting to AVA on time.
NOTES: The August TVA meeting will be in Waco. The Chisholm Trail Blazers will be the
host club. They will have a walk and 2 swims for us on Sunday. The date is August 7 for
the meeting and August 8 for the events. Mark this on your calendar and plan to attend. I
will publish a meeting agenda with the next newsletter. If you have items for the agenda,
please get them to me before May 15. We will also have elections for Treasurer and first
Vice President. The nominating committee, Linda Elms - south Texas, Gunhilt Money - north
Texas, and Charles Christal - east Texas are looking for qualified candidates to run for
these offices. If you are interested, contact them.
Attached is the current event schedule. Please check it carefully to see that your
event information is entered correctly. Notify me or Bob Creamer of any errors.
Finally, our Treasurer, Bob Creamer now has e-mail. His address is rcreamer@wcnet.net
