On Sunday Morning, the Chisholm Trail Blazers have three events for your
walking and swimming pleasure. There will be an 11 k walk and two swim events. The walk
registration hours are 6:30 - 8:30 AM and the swim registration is from 9 - 11 AM. All
three events will start from the TSTC swimming pool on Campus Drive. In addition, the club
has a YRE for you starting from the Hilton Inn.
The June newsletter will have a map and directions. The Waco Hilton has a block of 10
rooms held until July 6 for $74.00 + tax. To get this special rate when you reserve your
room, identify yourself as a Texas Volkssport Association member. Phone 800 234 5244. We
will also have a group dinner on Saturday evening. Eveline Evans is working on a location.
Attached is a draft agenda for the TVA General Membership meeting. Please contact me by
June 15 for any changes or additions. We will be electing the Treasurer and 1st Vice
President at this meeting. We will also be looking for a club to host the February
meeting.
2000 YRE/SEASONAL EVENTS: The deadline for submitting your sanction
requests for renewal or new Year Round and Seasonal events in approaching. All requests
must be submitted to me by August 1. I must have all of them into AVA Headquarters by
September 1. Please do not wait till the deadline to submit your sanctions. I will lose 2
weeks for the AVA convention and I plan to attend the events at Crater Lake in July. This
is a very large task to review all of the paper work and get it submitted on time. Please
do your part to help make the job manageable.
WORLD WALKING DAY EVENTS: For those of you planning to conduct events in
conjunction with the World Walking Day Program, these events can only be held on January
1-2, 2000 The TVA will sanction the December 31 and January 1 events as WWD events.
December 31 is blocked from other sanctions by TVA rules. All sanction requests must be at
AVA Headquarters July 25. So, if you are planning to participate with an event, the
sanction request must be in my hands no later than July 15. Be sure to write World Walking
Day Event in red across the top of the AVA sanction form. So far, only the Dallas Trekkers
and the Buffalo Chip Kickers have submitted sanction requests.
FREE WALKERS AND THE TVA: There is some confusion about which walkers are
counted as Non IVV Walkers versus walkers that are free. At the TVA meeting March 2, 1996
the membership voted to only have free walkers in Texas. That means that the clubs cannot
charge a fee to a person who does not get IVV credit for the event. They would be free
walkers and would be listed in the free walker category on the after action report.
Clubs are allowed to put a donation jar at the event for contributions.
YRE STAMPS: This is the first year walkers can get two event stamps for
the year round events. The date slug on the stamp has a + on it. After the close of
business on June 30, the + must be cut off the slug. All YRE stamps from July 1 to the end
of the year must not have the + on them. Please exercise caution when cutting off the +.
We dont want a bunch of puncture wounds from removing the +. Also be sure your club
members know time is getting short for getting the first stamp credit for 1999.
AVA CONVENTION: We want to be sure all TVA member clubs are represented
at the AVA Convention in Muncie. Each club must fill out AVA form 500, Delegate Selection
and Proxy Designation. The instructions for completing the form are on the back of the
form. Please read the instructions carefully. I am enclosing a form with this newsletter.
If your club has a member registering for the convention, they should be the club
delegate. These forms should be mailed to AVA no later than June 11. If your club will not
have a person registered for convention, the club president or secretary can designate the
TVA President as the Proxy for your club. In this case, you would list Chuck Samus in
section C of the form. Be sure the club president or secretary signs the form as required.
Mail the form directly to me at the address listed below if you are designating the proxy.
I must sign the form to make it valid. I will then forward it to the AVA. If your club has
special instructions on voting your proxy, please include that on a separate sheet and
forward it only to me along with the copy of the form. I will vote according to your
instructions. In order to insure each club is represented, I will contact each club
president by June 7. We do not want any club to miss out on their right to vote on issues
brought before the AVA membership.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your
use in planning future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please
review the calendar and let me know of any needed corrections.
Thanks to all of you for your dedicated work to provide quality events in TEXAS.
Remember, the V in IVV, AVA, and TVA not only stands for Volkssport, it also stands for
VOLUNTEER. Without volunteers, our organization could not function. Keep up the great job.
