January 2000 Newsletter
To: TVA Club Presidents and Board of Directors
From: Chuck Samus
Date: January 2, 2000
Subject: TVA Newsletter
GREETINGS-. I hope each of you had a Happy Holiday Season and are prepared to go
walking into the New Millenium. Do you have plans to do more events in 2000 than you did
in 1999?? Do you have plans to get one or more new folks participating in our sport this
year. If each of us adopted and carried out these resolutions for the new year, we could
go into the New Millennium feeling confident that our sport will continue as we know it.
Did you participate in the World Walking Day Events?? What a great way to start the New
Year.
TVA NEWS: Preliminary reports from Robert Theis indicate we had over 300 participants
at the Memorial Walk and over 200 at the Midnight Walk. Robert will have a detailed
report at the next TVA meeting. He asked me to express his Thanks to all of you that
worked at the event.
Sanction requests slowed during the holiday season. We are currently at 73 events
sanctioned for 2000.
As I announced in the last newsletter, Charles Wortz resigned as Secretary for TVA. We
conducted a search for a replacement and according to the procedures in the TVA Bylaws,
the board has cast their votes to fill the vacancy. It is my pleasure to announce that
Becky Lindig will be the TVA Secretary filling the office until the elections in August of
2000. I know Becky will fulfill the duties of the office well. Please let Becky know that
you appreciate her willingness to serve the TVA as Secretary.
Robert Theis tells me plans are in place for the Reunion Events to be held March 4-5 at
Lofers Bend Park of Lake Whitney. Mark the date on your calendar. I am enclosing a copy of
the brochure with this newsletter. This is a time for all Texas Clubs to get together for
fun and fellowship. Robert will be sending more brochures for your club.
Don't forget the Semiannual Meeting of the Texas Volkssport Association Saturday
February 6,
2000 in Kerrville, TX. The meeting will be held in the Lecture Hall at the UGRA
Building, 125 Lehmann Dr. in Kerrville. Lehmann Dr. is off Route 16 just past the
Guadalupe River Bridge. Go two traffic signals and turn right on Lehmann. The building
will be one block ahead on your right. The Board Meeting will start at 9 AM and the
General Meeting will be at 1 PM. A meeting agenda is enclosed. On Sunday, February 6, the
Kerrville Trailblazers will host an event for your walking pleasure. Brochure enclosed.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your use in planning
future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please review the calendar
and let me know of any needed corrections. If you have a TBA start location, please send a
change form as soon a possible. Folks have a difficult time finding a TBA location.
Thanks for all your hard work to provide quality events in TEXAS.
