TVA Reunion Event: If you missed the Reunion Events March 4 - 5 at
Lofers Bend park on Lake Whitney, and many of you did miss it, you missed two of the
best events this year. Robert Theis put together two special events with trails that had
great views of the lake, wildflowers, animals, a different type of award, and great
weather for walking. Special thanks to all that worked at the event. Only 170
participants came out to the events. This was a chance for the clubs of Texas to get
together for a good time, and most of you missed it. The majority of walkers came on
Saturday. We will need to discuss the future of reunion events at the next TVA meeting.
TVA News: At the February TVA meeting, the membership gave approval to go
forward with the program to encourage the use of State Parks for Volkssport events. The
program guidelines are included with this newsletter.
Please review carefully the AVA Checkpoint that comes to each club monthly. There are
changes listed in this newsletter that effect all clubs. Keep your club members up to date
by sharing this information at your club meetings.
As you all know, publicity is the key to getting folks to your event. Part of this
publicity is the event listing in The American Wanderer and on the AVA and TVA web
sites. I have seen several errors on event listings recently. When I see them, I check the
sanction request and notify AVA Headquarters of the change. Usually, it is too late by
that time to get the information changed in the Wanderer, but it can be changed on
the web pages. Each club should check the listings of your event on the TVA Event Calendar
that comes with your TVA Newsletter, on the TVA and AVA web pages for event listings, and
finally in the Wanderer. Please notify me immediately if an error is found.
Another problem getting folks to your events is having a TBA listed in the event
listing. I know there are times when you have not finalized the start location when you
submit the sanction request, but these should be few in number. Once you have finalized
the location, submit the sanction form to me with the changes so I can get the information
to the appropriate folks in a timely manner.
August TVA Meeting: The August 5, 2000 TVA Meetings will be held at the Garden
and Arts Center, 906 Senter Rd, in Irving. The Star Trekkers will be hosting a walk and 2
swims on Sunday for your pleasure. The brochure and a map will be included with the May
newsletter. Carolyn Ernst tells me the motels in Irving along 183, Airport Freeway, are
close to the meeting and walk sites. They will provide a listing with the next newsletter.
I am enclosing a preliminary meeting agenda for your information. If you have an item you
want added to the agenda, please send it to me ASAP so I can include it on the final
document.
Club Operations Topic: It is not too early to start your planning for new or
renewal of your Year Round Events for 2001. This is a big job and you all know the amount
of paperwork involved. So I am sending this reminder again. The deadline for submission to
me is August 1. I must have the paperwork to the AVA by September 1. You must include
the following in order to get your request processed: AVA sanction form 402Y, TVA sanction
form with a $5.00 check, Route description, Route map, and updated Brochure.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your use in
planning future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please review the
calendar and let me know of any needed corrections.
Keep up all your hard work to provide quality events in TEXAS.
