August TVA Meeting: The August 5, 2000 TVA Meeting will be held at the
Garden and Arts Center, 906 Senter Rd, in Irving. The Board meeting will start at 9 AM and
the General meeting will start at 1 PM. The Star Trekkers will be hosting a walk and 2
swims on Sunday for your pleasure. The brochure and a map were included with the last
newsletter. Carolyn Ernst tells me the motels in Irving along 183, Airport Freeway are
close to the meeting and walk sites. Enclosed is a list of some motels in the area. If you
need additional brochures or information, email me at csamus@prodigy.net or Carolyn Ernst
at caernst@juno.com or snail mail to the TVA address. Remember, we will be electing a
President, Vice President, and Secretary. Hope to see you at the meeting.
YRE RENEWALS: We are now at less than one month and counting down to the
deadline for submission of the paperwork on new or renewal Year Round Events for 2001.
This is a big job and you all know the amount of paperwork involved. I am sending this
reminder again. The deadline for submission to me is August 1. I must have the paperwork
to the AVA by September 1. You must include the following in order to get your request
processed: AVA sanction form 402Y, TVA sanction form with a $5.00 check, Route
description, Route map, and updated draft Brochure. Some of you have already got your
paperwork in Thanks for your help to make this job easier.
Club Operations Topic: If your club has a change in any information about
a Year Round or Seasonal Event, you must submit the information to the TVA for processing.
If the change effects the information in the Starting Point, you must submit
that information on an event sanction form 402Y, and mark it CHANGE. I will record the
information and submit it to the AVA for processing and publication in The Wanderer.
The TVA became 2 clubs smaller this year. The Texas Woodlands Trail Walkers disbanded
because their goal of establishing Volkssporting in East Texas has been met. Two clubs
were started and are active now in East Texas, the East Texas Trekkers and the Heartland
Volkssporters.
The Chisholm Trail Blazers of Waco went inactive. They were unable to get club officers
and members to run the club. The Trotting Texas Turtles will take over running the YRE in
Waco.
If your club is having a difficult time operating, please bring it to my attention
before you initiate plans to go inactive. As stated in the TVA By Laws, one purpose of the
TVA is to "work toward the revitalization of ailing clubs." The Board
will be discussing ways to implement this at the upcoming TVA semi-annual Meeting.
The latest New Balance Sponsorship form is enclosed with this newsletter. The form must
be received at least 8 weeks prior to the event.
AVA CONVENTION: The AVA Convention will be held in Bellevue,
Washington in June, 2001. The TVA Board will start planning for this event at our August
meeting. We plan to have a booth at the convention as we have done in the past. Anna
Cottrill has agreed to be the Booth Chair. She will be calling on you for help. At the
Convention, many recognition awards are give to deserving Volkssporters. Included with
your May mailing of the AVA Checkpoint were the nomination forms for these awards.
This is an opportunity to pay special tribute to those that work hard to promote our
sport.
The deadline for submitting the forms to our Regional Director, Lyn Ward, is November
1. Missing this deadline will cause someone to miss out on the special recognition they
deserve. If you need copies of these forms, let me know.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your
use in planning future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please
review the calendar and let me know of any needed corrections.
Quality events dont just happen. Your hard work makes them happen!
