January 2001 Newsletter
To: TVA Club Presidents and Board of Directors
From: Chuck Samus
Date: January 5, 2001
Subject: TVA Newsletter
GREETINGS: I hope your Holidays were enjoyable and the weather did not
keep you from getting out and keeping up your walking program We had
our share of ice here in North Texas as did many of you. The weather
man says there is more to come before winter is gone. Did you make a
New Year's resolution to participate in more events this year than you
did in 2000? There are already 57 events on the schedule for your
walking pleasure. There are also the 76 YRE's just waiting for you.
There should be at least 60 more events sanctioned for the year, so you
will have no difficulty finding an event. So what are you waiting for?
The events are there for you.
FEBRUARY TVA MEETING: Please be sure your club is represented at the
February TVA meeting February 3, 2001. The meeting Agenda is enclosed
with this newsletter. The meeting will be at the Fredericksburg Inn and
Suites, 201 S. Washington, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. We have blocked a
group of 10 rooms at the rate of $69 plus tax. This includes a deluxe
Continental Breakfast. The phone number is 1-800-446-0202 and when
calling identify yourself with the Texas Volkssport Association to
reserve a room. The Board meeting will start at 9:00 AM and the General
meeting will start at 1:00 PM. There will not be a scheduled walk
Sunday, February 4. The Fredericksburg club has 4 YRE's, and one of
them is new for 2001. We hope you will support the Fredericksburg Club
and walk one of these events on Sunday.
TVA NEWS: The annual TVA Memorial and New Years events went very well
this year. I know ice and snow threats and cold weather kept some of
you away. Robert Theis and all of the folks that helped at the events
did an excellent job taking care of your walking needs. Robert sends
special Thanks to all of you that worked the event and appreciation to
all that participated. There were 364 participants for both events. Of
that number, 75 were free walkers. Mark your calendars for next year!
REUNION EVENTS: The TVA annual Reunion will be March 3 - 4 at
Pedernales Falls State Park. Robert has put together two trails for
your walking enjoyment. I am enclosing a brochure for the events with
this newsletter. Please make copies and distribute them to your club
members. If you need more brochures for distribution at an event, you
can contact Robert at 830-896-3550 or make copies from the one
enclosed. Robert is looking for VOLUNTEERS to work the events. If you
are able to work, contact him by phone or snail mail, 446 Vicksburg,
Kerrville, TX 78028-2773. These are your events and each club should
provide workers for the events. Please be sure your club is represented
on the workers board.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS: Have you returned the TVA survey on the health of
the member clubs you received in November? If you are still putting it
of~ it is not too late. We would like to have the results tabulated for
the February TVA meeting. Please get them in the mail to the TVA
Secretary, Becky Lindig. We even gave you a SASE to make it easy. The
2001 petals for the 10/20 in Texas program are available. Enclosed is
an order form If you need additional patches or previous year petals,
contact Anna Cottrill at the address listed on the order form.
I have enclosed a list of Texas Year Round Events for 2001. As you can
see, there are 3 new events this year. I am also enclosing the TVA
Quarterly after action forms in this mailing. Please be sure the
appropriate person in your club receives the forms.
CLUB OPERATIONS TOPIC: If you make any changes to your Year Round
Events during the year, you must report that change to the TVA
President. If you change a start point, mark the changes on a copy of
the YRE sanction form. I will forward those changes to the AVA for
publication in The American Wanderer. All other changes are filed for
record only. I hope each YRE sponsor club has changed the date on the
event stamp by now. Did you take advantage of that activity to check
the condition of your start box and make any needed replenishments?
AVA FUND-RAISER: Ellen Ott of the Randolph Roadrunners asked me to put
the following item in this newsletter. Please add it to your club
newsletter for greater distribution. This is an opportunity for
Volkssporters to help raise additional funds of the AVA National
Office. TACO CABANA and the San Antonio area Volkssport Clubs are
teaming up for a fund-raiser with all proceeds going to the American
Volkssport Association. The event will he held May 12, 2001, and the
start point will be at Taco Cabana on Pat Booker Road in Universal
City. Sanction fees for the event have been waived and all walker fees
will go to the A VA. In addition, Taco Cabana will donate 20% of the
receipts from the purchase of food and drink items that day by all
persons identifying themselves as Volkssporters. Event brochures will
he available_for each club. Questions regarding the event should be
directed to Ellen Ott at 210-525-8574.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your
use in planning future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling
conflicts. Please review the calendar and let me know of any needed
corrections.
Quality events don't just happen. Your hard work makes them happen!
