GREETINGS: We are over a quarter of the way through 2001. The Texas clubs have been
working hard to provide quality events for your walking pleasure. Are you participating in
these events? Do you encourage club members to participate in these events? Do you
publicize other club events in your club newspaper? I hope the answer is yes to all of
these questions. We are in an uphill battle to keep Volkssporting alive. We will loose
this battle unless we get out and participate and get others to participate with us. The
outcome of the battle is in our hands.
TVA MEETING: The August TVA meeting will be in San Marcos August 4, 2001. The San
Marcos River Walkers have planned 2 swim events and a walking event for our pleasure on
Sunday, August 5, 2001. Barbara Piersol has reserved a block of 15 rooms at the Quality
Inn in San Marcos. The room rate is $59.95 + tax per night and that includes a full
breakfast, sausage, eggs, etc. The phone number of the Quality Inn is 512-353-7770.
We will have election of officers at this meeting and will conduct other important
business as listed on the agenda. The proposed agenda is enclosed with this newsletter.
AVA CONVENTION NEWS: The AVA Convention 2001 is just weeks away. I have delegate or
proxy information from all but 2 TVA clubs. I will have them before convention and again
all clubs will be represented on the Convention Floor. I hope you have been reading the
AVA Officer Candidate information that was sent to each club and what appears in the TAW.
If you have any questions about the candidates, you can contact them directly or contact
Lyn Ward, our Regional Director or myself. If your club has instructions for your Delegate
or Proxy, please be sure that person knows them so they will cast your clubs vote
per the instructions.
Anna tells me the Convention Booth is shaping up very nicely. The booth will showcase
Texas and will make all of us proud. We have Texas flags for each delegate from Texas. We
want the country to know we are from Texas.
We still do not have 50 YRE brochures from each sponsoring club to put in the
convention booth. Anna or I will be contacting the clubs that are missing to get the
brochures to us in time for transportation to the Convention. Save Anna and me a lot of
work and get your brochures to us quickly.
TVA NEWS: I am enclosing copies of pages for your TVA Manual. These pages should
replace the outdated ones you have in your Manual. Please destroy all the old pages and
use the new ones for masters to make copies for future submissions. If your club does not
have a TVA Manual, let me know so I can get you one. If you follow the instructions in
this book, you will always submit your paper work correctly and on time.
I am enclosing the minutes from the February TVA meeting for your review. Please note
any corrections and bring them to the TVA meeting in August or send them directly to
Secretary, Becky Lindig.
We have 84 events sanctioned so far for 2001. There are 5 events sanctioned for 2002.
Dont wait till the last minute to get your event sanctions in.
YRE RENEWAL FORMS: The deadline for submission of paperwork for new or renewed Year
Round Events is Aug. 1. I must have the paperwork in my hands by then so I can process it
and submit it to the National Office by September 1. Failure to get the paperwork in on
time to the AVA will mean the event cannot be started January 1, 2002. I must have the
following for each event: AVA Sanction Form 402Y(March 2001), TVA Sanction Form and a $5
check to TVA, an event brochure, a route map, and route instructions. Incomplete packages
will be returned for correction. You all did very well last year. I only had a couple of
incomplete submissions. Keep up the good work this year.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your use in planning
future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please review the calendar
and let me know of any needed corrections.
Quality events bring more participants. Keep up your hard work to make them happen!
