GREETINGS: Summer is here with the usual heat and humidity. I hope you are not letting
those details stop you from attending the few events scheduled. Each scheduled event
represents many hours of hard work by dedicated club members. Please support their efforts
by attending the events. Dont use the heat as an excuse. Go early and be back at the
finish table with a cool bottle of water before the temperature gets too hot. There are
also YREs begging for your participation. Remember, they are just like new events
eligible for another event stamp after July 1. If your walking schedule puts you in the
heat and sunshine, be sure you have adequate water with you. Sunscreen generously applied
is also a must. A wide brimmed hat, long sleeves and pants will also help ward off damage
by the suns rays. An umbrella can also be used to provide shade while you are walking.
Prepare properly and enjoy walking during the Summer.
TVA MEETING: The August TVA meeting will be in San Marcos August 4, 2001. The San
Marcos River Walkers have planned 2 swim events and a walking event for our pleasure on
Sunday, August 5, 2001. Barbara Piersol has reserved a block of 15 rooms at the Quality
Inn in San Marcos. The room rate is $59.95 + tax per night and that includes a full
breakfast, sausage, eggs, etc. The phone number of the Quality Inn is 512-353-7770.
Reservations must be made by July 15 to get the room at this rate! I am enclosing 2
brochures for the Sunday events. Please make copies for your club or contact Barbara
Piersol for more.
We will have election of officers at this meeting and will conduct other important
business as listed on the agenda. The meeting agenda and a map to the meeting site is
enclosed with this newsletter.
AVA CONVENTION NEWS: The AVA Convention 2001 will almost be starting when you get this
letter. We will have a convention report at the August meeting or go to the AVA website
AVA.org for current information.
OPERATIONS ITEMS: Remember to remove the + from your Year Round Event Stamps July 1. If
you find one not cut off after that date, please notify the POC for that event.
AVA and TVA Dues should be mailed to the appropriate address and are due upon receipt
of the invoice.
Please send your TVA after action reports directly to Suzanne Markgraff, 20205 Hoya
Lane, Garden Ridge, TX 78266. Sending them to me just delays the process for event
completion.
All forms submitted should be on the new forms you received in the last newsletter.
Please destroy all old forms. If other folks in your club other than the President are
doing paperwork, please be sure they have the new forms.
I am enclosing another copy of the minutes from the February TVA meeting for your
review. Becky found some corrections and requested that I send out new copies. Please
destroy the copies you received in the last newsletter. Please note any additional
corrections and bring them to the TVA meeting in August or send them directly to
Secretary, Becky Lindig.
We have 87 events sanctioned so far for 2001. There are 8 events sanctioned for 2002.
Dont wait till the last minute to get your event sanctions in.
YRE RENEWAL REMINDER: Please use the new forms for your submissions that require
changes. Copies of the old form are acceptable ONLY If there are NO CHANGES! The deadline
for submission of paperwork for new or renewed Year Round Events is Aug. 1. I must have
the paperwork in my hands by then so I can process it and submit it to the National Office
by September 1. Failure to get the paperwork in on time to the AVA will mean the event
cannot be started January 1, 2002. I must have the following for each event: AVA Sanction
Form 402Y(March 2001), TVA Sanction Form and a $5 check to TVA, an event brochure, a route
map, and route instructions. Incomplete packages will be returned for correction. You all
did very well last year. I only had a couple of incomplete submissions. Keep up the good
work this year.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your use in planning
future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please review the calendar
and let me know of any needed corrections.
Quality events bring more participants. Keep up your hard work to make them happen!
