Greetings: I hope each of you have escaped the flu bug that is going
around. I was not that lucky and have missed several events this year as well as the TVA
Meeting in Corpus Christi. There are many events scheduled for the rest of the year. I
hope you will take advantage of the efforts of the sponsoring clubs and participate in
these events.
TVA Reunion Events: Just a reminder that the annual TVA Reunion events
will be held at Dana Peak March 2-3, 2002. Robert Theis has worked hard to provide 2 great
trails for these events. There will be no entrance fee charged to the walkers. I am
enclosing brochures for the events. Please make copies as needed for your club members. We
will be looking forward to your attendance at these events.
TVA Meeting: The TVA meeting was held in Corpus Christi, February 2,
2002. Thanks to the Sparkling City Strollers for their hospitality and Sunday walk event.
Nineteen clubs were represented at the meeting. Lyn Clark, IVV Vice President and Ginny
Drum, interim AVA Executive Director were at the meeting. The proposed bylaw changes were
approved at the meeting. Thanks to Robert Theis for filling in during my illness. Minutes
will be included in a future newsletter.
Event Report: We have 56 events sanctioned so far for 2002. Several clubs
are sanctioning seasonal events that will start around Memorial Day weekend. Randolph
Roadrunners are sanctioning 2 events in Boerne. The Dallas Trekkers are sanctioning an
event in Richardson, and the New Braunfels club is sanctioning an event in Canyon Lake.
You should be seeing brochures on these events soon.
Memorial and New Year's Events: Robert Theis provided 2 great trails for
the 390 participants at the Memorial and New Year's TVA events. There were 222
participants at the Memorial events and 168 at the Midnight walk. Robert sends his Thanks
and Appreciation to all the folks that worked at the events to help make them a success.
Club Items: It is time for all clubs to submit the Annual Club Officer
Update form 201U. I am sending a copy for your club with this newsletter. If your club has
already submitted the form during 2002, you do not have to send another form unless there
has been an officer change. Please send the forms to the TVA President for processing. I
will send them on to the appropriate locations. Clubs not submitting this form as required
may loose their blanket IRS 50c3 eligibility.
I am enclosing a revised TVA Officer Listing for your TVA Manual. Please replace the old
sheets in your manual with these new sheets.
Have you checked your YRE box lately? Will the participants find all the items needed to
complete your event? Are your maps and instructions legible. Will the participant leave
the start area with a favorable impression of your club? Have you walked your trail lately
to be sure the trail is not blocked by construction or other changes? Attention to these
details will help your participant enjoy the event.
TVA Event Calendar: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for
your use in planning future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Please review the calendar and let me know of any needed corrections.
Quality events bring more participants. Keep up your hard work to make them happen!
