GREETINGS: We are over a quarter of the way through 2002. I hope it has been a
good quarter for your club. The weather has not been cooperating with the weekend events.
I have heard about several events that were held in the rain and cold. Hopefully, the
weather will start cooperating and attendance will pick up before the hot Summer months
set in.
TVA MEETING: The August TVA meeting will be in Plano, August 3, 2002. The
Plano Plodders Walking Club has planned 2 swim events and a walking event for your
pleasure on Sunday, August 4, 2002. I am enclosing a sheet that has the hotel and meeting
information with this newsletter. The TVA Meeting will be held at the Gladys Harrington
Library, 1501 18th Street in Plano. The Board meeting will start at 9:00 AM and the
General Meeting will be at 1:00 PM. We will have election of officers at this meeting and
will conduct other important business as listed on the agenda. The proposed agenda is
enclosed with this newsletter. Also enclosed is a report from the nominating committee.
TVA NEWS: The minutes from the February TVA meeting are enclosed for your
review. Please send any noted corrections to Secretary, Becky Lindig. Final approval will
take place at the August meeting. Please note the approved revisions to the TVA By Laws.
Becky is in the process of incorporating them into the By Law document and each club will
receive a copy soon. One important note: The originally proposed amendment to allow email
authorization for a club member to represent the club at a TVA Meeting was voted out.
Email authorization is still not allowed for TVA meetings. So far, we have 74 events
sanctioned for 2002. At this time last year we had 84 events sanctioned. There are 2
events sanctioned for 2003. Dont wait till the last minute to get your event
sanctions submitted.
YRE RENEWAL FORMS: The deadline for submission of paperwork for new or
renewed Year Round Events is August 1. I must have the paperwork in my hands by then so I
can process it and submit it to the National Office by September 1. Failure to get the
paperwork in on time to the AVA will mean the event cannot be started January 1, 2003. I
must have the following for each event: AVA Sanction Form 402Y(March 2001), TVA Sanction
Form and a $5 check to TVA, an event brochure, a route map, and route instructions.
Incomplete packages will be returned for correction.
Because a new TVA President will take over in August, I would like to have all of
the 2003 sanctions completed and processed by the August 1 deadline. This will allow the
new President to get his feet on the ground without facing the monumental task of
processing YRE forms. I would appreciate having your forms to me by July 1 so I can have
them completed by August 1.
CLUB ITEM: The AVA has a program called the National Star Club Award Program to
recognize clubs that have supported the AVA in all their endeavors to keep our sport alive
and well. It takes hard work from the club members to do this. This is a chance for your
club to get the recognition it deserves for the hard work you do. I am enclosing the
requirements and form to submit for this award. All your club has to do is meet the
requirements and fill out the form. The completed form must be submitted to AVA
headquarters postmarked by May 31, 2002. Dont let this deadline slip by and miss the
opportunity for some well deserved recognition.
TVA Webpage: If you have not looked at the TVA Webpage, http://walktexas.org/
you are missing an opportunity to view information about events and happenings with Texas
Clubs. Gary Speir of the West Texas Trail Walkers took time to print some information from
the web page. This is a great brochure that gives you a peek at the wealth of information
contained there. I am enclosing a copy with this newsletter. Our Webmaster, Gary Whitford,
does an excellent job keeping the page updated. His efforts were recognized at the last
AVA Convention when the website was recognized as a Gold Star site. The TVA Website can
also be reached through a link from the AVA website, ava.org Thanks Gary and Gary
for you efforts.
TVA EVENT CALENDAR: Enclosed is the current TVA event calendar for your
use in planning future events. It is always best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please
review the calendar and let me know of any needed corrections.
Quality events bring more participants. Keep up your hard work to make them happen!
