Subject: TVA Newsletter

GREETINGS: The first order of business is to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and the best during the upcoming year. I am looking forward to the new year, the upcoming AVA Convention, the many walks that are being scheduled throughout the state, and the expansion of the joint program that AARP, TDoA, and the TVA has been coordinating.

BULK MAILING: There is a lot of material being forwarded in the mailing. The Minutes of the TVA Board Meeting and the TVA General Membership Meeting in August is enclosed. Please read them over carefully and bring any errors/corrections to the meeting in February. Also, please bring a copy to the February meeting. Also enclosed is the proposed agenda for the February meeting. Any comments/corrections please let me know so I can finalize the agenda prior to the meeting. I am also enclosing a copy the AVA letter concerning the Call to Convention, and the revised AVA Event Sanction Request (two copies). I know, these were all mailed directly to each club; I just want to be sure that all of you have the information. PLEASE - make copies of the revised AVA ESR and start using them NOW. I will not accept the old form after January 1.

REMINDER: Becky Lindig, TVA Secretary, is the approving authority for event flyers/brochures for Texas events. Becky's address is on the TVA Officers Roster. I have been gracious enough to accept some flyers/brochures sent to me via e-mail; however, I would strongly suggest that anyone wishing to forward their event flyer/brochure to Becky via e-mail to coordinate with her prior to sending.

REPEAT - AVA FEES: I am sure that by now, all or most of you, have heard that the AVA Executive Council has approved raising the Credit Only fee to a maximum of $3.00. In conjunction with this, the participation fee paid to the AVA has also been raised to $1.25 per participant (award, credit only, non-IVV participant [does not apply to TX], less free walkers). This price increase takes effect in January 2003. For those clubs that may have already printed flyers for 2003 events I do not expect you to reprint them. However, I do expect that you will make pen & ink changes to those flyers not already distributed. Needless to say, if you do have a requirement to reprint, that the appropriate change will be made prior to reprinting. It might be a good idea, particularly for those clubs holding events in January, February, and March, to post a notice at the start table informing walkers of the fee increase. I have already approved the flyer for the TVA Memorial Walk (31 December) and the Mid-night Walk (New Years Eve) showing the Credit Only Fee of $2.00 for these events. At the present time I do not intend to increase the fee to $3.00 for the Mid-night Walk even though we will be paying the AVA the increased participation fee. All this means is that the TVA will make $0.75 per paid walker rather than the $1.50 we previously collected.

MEMORIAL/MIDNIGHT WALK: The TVA will again be hosting the Memorial Walk (31 December) and the Midnight Walk (New Years Eve) in Fredericksburg, TX. The start point for both walks will be at St. Joseph Hall, 200 Block of West San Antonio Street. There will be a workers walk for the Memorial Walk starting at 8:00 AM. Please join us at this time and complete the walk so you will be available to work during the walk. Robert will appreciate having plenty of workers to help with this event. The TVA will also be hosting a wine and cheese social beginning at 11:00 PM (31 December) and ending when the midnight walk begins. Please plan on joining us for this event. It is a great opportunity to visit-and talk with our many Volkssporting friends from around the state. I have included a copy of the flyer for these events. Feel free to make copies as needed.

FEBRUARY MEETING: The semi-annual meeting of the TVA will be held on 1 February 2003 in Kerrville, TX. The TVA Board Meeting will be held at 9:00 AM. All members of the TVA are cordially invited to attend this meeting. The General Membership Meeting will begin at 1:00 PM. Both of these meetings will be at the Best Western Sunday House, 2124 Sidney Baker St (Hiway 16 just South of I-10 intersection). A block of rooms has been reserved for the TVA at the discounted rate of $59.00 single, and $65.00 double. This includes a full cooked breakfast at the Cypress Grille located next door to the motel. Sunday House Tel: 830-896-1313 or 1-800-528-1234. The Kerrville Trailblazers will be hosting a 5K/11K walk starting from the Kerrville-Schreiner State Park on Sunday, 2 February 2003. Walk start times are from 8:00 AM to 12 noon. Finish by 3:00 PM. The Park entry fees have been waived for walkers; however, those planning to utilize the camping areas will be required to pay appropriate fees. I have enclosed a copy of the flyer for this event. Again, feel free to reproduce and distribute.

REUNION EVENTS: The TVA Reunion events have been sanctioned for March 1 & 2 in Sequin. Additional information is forthcoming. Mark your calendars NOW and plan on attending these events.
