Now that we are finally getting into better weather it is time for all of
us to get out and enjoy the many walks being offered throughout the state.
So far for the year there have been 75 events sanctioned for the state.
Quite a few of those have already taken place but there are still many
available between now and the end of the year. I know there are
still some walks to be sanctioned for this year. It would be nice if
we could end the year with at least 100 sanctioned events for the state of
Texas.
As all of you are well aware the AVA Convention is scheduled to be held in
Colorado Springs in June. Those that are planning on attending I
hope have sent in their registration and fees by this time. It is
not to late to register so if your registration has not been submitted I
would recommend it be done immediately. This should be a
well-attended convention with plenty of events to keep just about any
volkssporter happy. Speaking of the convention. Those clubs
that do not have a member attending as a delegate please send your
Delegate Selection and Proxy Designation to me and I will fulfill the
Proxy Designation. Please make sure that the top part of the form is
completely filled out along with the Certification portion. I would
like this to be accomplished real soon as the forms must be forwarded to
AVA by the lst of June. I would also appreciate those clubs who are
having a club member as a delegate please notify me of the individual who
will be the delegate. That way I won’t start bugging you about
getting the proxy designation to me. The TVA has a good record of
having 100% representation at the National Convention and this year should
be the same.
The deadline for submission of Year Round Event (YRE) paperwork to the AVA
has been changed to 1 August. This change is primarily to ensure
that a quality book is prepared and to make the book available for sale
during the month of December. With this change by the AVA it
necessitates a change in submission to the TVA. I will need all of
the paperwork to be submitted to me by 1 July. I know, this is right
after the convention, so it might be a good idea to start working on
getting the paperwork prepared. Remember, I MUST receive the
completed sanction request (both pages unless it is a renewal with no
changes), a copy of the written route instructions to include a map of the
route, and a copy of the proposed flyer/brochure. The TVA Event
Information form must also be completed and forwarded as part of the
packet. Please bear one thought in mind, if you are changing
ANYTHING it is not a renew with no changes.
The August TVA meeting will be held in Abilene on Saturday, 2 August.
The Board of Directors will meet at 9 AM and the General Membership
meeting will be at 1 PM. The host club, Shoeleather Express, will be
hosting a walking event along with two swim events on Sunday, 3 August.
Also, remember, there are three YREs in Abilene so there is plenty of
opportunity to add to your mileage and events that weekend. I would
like to have a good representation of clubs at this meeting, as there will
be a lot to discuss and of course receiving the reports from the AVA
Convention.
